Historical Note
Born in 1885 at Wainfleet, Ontario, Canada, Elsie Blanche Augustine attended nursing school in Buffalo, New York at the Millard Fillmore School of Nursing and graduated with her nursing degree in 1914. First stationed at the Ellis Island Hospital in New York City, she served most of the war years at United States base hospitals in and around Vittel, France (especially Base Hospital 23 from 1917-1919) and was finally mustered out in 1919.
