Biographical / Historical
The Harry Rachlin, '26 Oral History Project was commenced by the University at Buffalo Law Alumni Association in October 1999 to document the history of the University at Buffalo School of Law. The Law Alumni Association provided the seed money to buy equipment and materials. The Association, the School of Law, and the Charles B. Sears Law Library provided interviewers and support staff. Dr. Michael Fisch provided consulting services and Judith Weiland indexed the recordings.
The collection initially included audio interviews specifically performed for the collection and recorded on audio cassette. Later, the scope of the collection was broadened and video interviews were added. Video interviews were recorded specifically for the collection or were recorded at or in support of Alumni Association events. The bulk of the video interviews are born digital. A few were recorded on VHS video tape.
The collection has been supplemented with audio interviews conducted before the start of the Rachlin oral history project. The recordings were donated by Ilene Fleischmann, Vice Dean Alumni and Executive Director of the Association. Most of the interviews were recorded by Ms. Fleischmann for articles published in early issues of the UB Law Forum.
