Scope and Content Note

The Robert Kelly Collection contains an extensive collection of Kelly’s autographed and typed manuscripts and notebooks (approximately 58,000 pages); over 4,000 letters to Kelly from such writers as Cid Corman, Robert Creeley, Robert Duncan, Ted Enslin, Clayton Eshleman, Charles Olson, Jonathan Williams, and Diane Wakoski; and copies of many of Kelly’s letters to others.

Biographical Note

Robert Kelly (1935 – ) is a writer, editor, and teacher who has published over fifty books of poetry and fiction. Kelly edited the literary magazines Chelsea Review, Trobar, and Matter, and has served as a contributing editor for Caterpillar, Sulfur, Alcheringa, Conjunctions, and Poetry International. He is the Asher B. Edelman Professor of Literature and Co-director of the Writing Program in Fiction and Poetry at Bard College, where he has taught since 1961.
