Historical Note

During the 1960s and 1970s, the University at Buffalo experienced a surge of campus unrest incidents. Student, faculty, administration and even members of the local community were involved in the unfolding events on campus that protested many social and political issues including the Vietnam War, the ROTC presence on campus, racial bias in University athletics, and the Department of Defense research (Themis). The bulk of this collection focuses on the Buffalo Student Crisis of 1970 in which Buffalo city police occupied the campus and 45 faculty members went to jail.
