Biographical Note Historical Note

Sports appeared at the University of Buffalo in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, notably with the rise of the UB football team in 1894. Other sports teams formed throughout the following years, eventually halting during World War II. UB athletics slowly returned following this hiatus, eventually transitioning from the student-run structure of earlier years to a more structured, University-sanctioned Division of Athletics. Today, UB is home to sixteen Division-I teams.
