Historical Note

The Blue Rose, by Gerda Weissmann Klein was first published in 1974. It is the story of Jenny, a child with developmental disabilities. It inspired a group of women to create The Blue Rose Foundation in Western New York. Soon after the book's publication, it became a Reader's Digest selection and was printed in over twenty languages. Organizations throughout the U.S. and in other countries were granted use of the name for Blue Rose Galas, balls and other fundraisers.

The Blue Rose Foundation has provided financial support for projects related to helping people with developmental disabilities. Grants have helped agencies, organizations and individuals.
