Historical Note
Department of Music offered two different degree programs: the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Fine Arts in the field. The B.A. program prepares students for works in Music history, Musicology, research and advanced composition. The B.F.A. program has four areas of specialization: Applied Music for performers; Music Education for prospective teachers in the public schools; Sacred Music for organists or choir directors planning a career as church musicians; and Composition for creatively gifted musicians. Musical understanding, technical competence, and humanistic orientation to the art of music were the principal aims of the Department program during 1960's.
