Historical Note

Artpark in Lewiston, New York, opened on July 25, 1974 with a gala hosted by James Coco and Cicely Tyson. It was a project of the Natural Heritage Trust, under the jurisdiction of the New York State Office of Parks and Recreation. Spanning 172 acres at the "crossroads for all traffic from the Atlantic via Northeast America" Artpark celebrates the rich history, geology and culture "where everyone may discover the artist in themselves." It houses an international theatre and its original mission was to sponsor artists-in-residence. Current events and information may be found here.
