Biographical Note

Richard Dean ("Max") McCarthy

Max McCarthy served in the United States Congress representing a usually solid Republican district in suburban Buffalo, New York from 1965 to 1970. He left his mark battling pollution and securing public-works projects for the area. He later served as the Washington Bureau chief for the Buffalo News from 1978 until 1989. He died in 1995 of Lou Gehrig's disease at age 67.
