Historical Note
The Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State (AMTNYS) was founded in 1950 and chartered by the Regents of the University of the State of New York in 1957. The purpose of AMTNYS is to: (a) insure better coordination of all activities of mathematics groups in the State"; (b) afford a medium of exchange of views regarding the teaching of mathematics; c) further the cooperative study of problems relating to the teaching of mathematics at the elementary, junior high school, senior high school and college levels; and (d) encourage active interest in mathematics and mathematics education [taken from the University of the state of New York Education Department: Absolute Charter of Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State, 1957].
