Historical Note

The Office of Institutional Research was established in the Fall of 1963 under the aegis of the Office of the Vice President for Educational Affairs. In the Fall of 1965, the Office of the Vice President was vacated and the Office of Institutional Research was established as a separate unit administratively responsible to the Office of the Special Assistant to the President.

The function of the Office is three-fold:

  • To conduct such studies at the University-wide level, not presently falling within the manifest purview of other University offices, as are required by administrative and faculty bodies for purposes of making informed judgments and rational decisions concerning daily and long-range operations of the University.
  • To seek ways and means, and to implement same, of establishing procedures for the collection of uniformly phrased institutional data, consistent with the needs of all University data users.
  • To assist University personnel in the pursuit of research of an institutional nature by means of information and advice and/or of partial support.
