Minority enrollment and staffing collection
Scope and Contents
Small collection of reports and memos related to the 1972 "Minority Access to and Participation in Post-Secondary Education" report by the New York State Education Department, and contains statistics and plans on University at Buffalo minority enrollment and faculty recruitment of this period. Materials in this collection were gathered by Henry Richards of the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, for Thomas Crane, for use in response to a 1972 Education Department report (“Minority Access to and Participation in Post-Secondary Education,” see folder 1).
Statistics include 1971 numbers on student enrollment and faculty by race or ethnicity for undergraduates, professional and graduate schools, and Millard Fillmore College. Also included is the 1970-1971 University-wide Faculty and Staff Recruitment Committee annual report which includes a history of the initiation of the Ad Hoc Committee on Minority Faculty and Staff Recruitment in 1968; Faculty Senate Admissions Committee Recommendations for 1973 Admission report; School of Dentistry grant “…to increase enrollment…of individuals from minority and low income groups;” Report on Minority Students Program of the School of Medicine; Statement by the Law School faculty on minorities in the School; Cooperation Among Equals: The Minority Students of the Faculty of Law and Jurisprudence report.

Minority enrollment and staffing were transferred to University Archives in July 1977 from the Office of the President, accession #77-032. Materials in this collection were gathered by Henry Richards of the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, for Thomas Crane, for possible use in response to a 1972 New York State Education Department Report.
