Jewish Federation, Public Relations Task Force, 1996
Scope and Contents
This collection highlights the work of Karen Zakalik on several projects from 1996 to 1998. From June 1996 until December 1996, Karen Zakalik was the Publicity and Marketing Chairperson for a multi-event celebration of Bible Women by Elizabeth Swados (died 2016), a former Buffalonian and member of Temple Beth Zion, and an award winning composer, writer and director. Sponsored by the Jewish Community Center, Karen Zakalik wrote and implemented a marketing plan to promote four events involving Elizabeth Swados’ concert-drama. The files included here document her processes, and the associated programs of events. Beginning June 1997 until October 1997, Karen Zakalik served as the Adbook Co-Chair for a Bonim [“Builders”] recognition evening at the Hillel Foundation of Buffalo. In this role she coordinated the production of a commemorative program book that documented the history of Hillel in Buffalo. Many of the materials she utilized, were drawn from outside of the organizations own records and provided a unique record. From June 1997 until November 2000, Karen Zakalik was a Committee Member for the Legacies Book of Life program for the Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies. She worked on their introduction of a new endowment program, and that launched during the 1997 Jewish Community Book Fair. This collection highlights a small section of her community work, and more evidence of her lay leadership and professional work can be found in the Kadimah collection (ms209), Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies (ms227), Jewish Federation of Buffalo (ms225), Hillel of Buffalo and Jewish Community Center (ms204).
