Contains digital video of the SUNY Honorary Degree Conferral of Doctor of Humane Letters to the Founder and Chancellor of Amrita University in India, Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, (affectionately known as Amma), on May 25, 2010 in Lippes Concert Hall.

Program begins with the academic procession to the Prince of Denmark’s March performed by a professor in the Music Department, Roland Martin (01:00). Procession led to the stage by Carol Pitro, John Ho, and Chair of the Faculty Senate, Robert Hoeing. Introduction to the event by the Vice Provost for International Education, Stephen C. Dunnett (07:00), followed by an introduction of the collaboration between Amrita University and the University at Buffalo by Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Satish K. Tripathi (10:35). Introductions followed by Roland Martin’s performance of a François Couperin piece on organ (16:30). Performance followed by University at Buffalo President John B. Simpson’s speech and (22:00), including a video of Amma Mata Amritanandamayi’s accomplishments (27:55), an academic procession led to the stage by Carol Pitro and John Ho (38:00), discussion of SUNY Honorary Degrees (39:45), and degree conferral and presentation of degree and hood by SUNY Board of Trustees member, Eunice Lewin (41:50). Degree conferral followed by Amma Mata Amritanandamayi Devi’s speech in Hindi (45:00), (1:12:10) and translation in English (55:45), (1:20:25). Speech followed by introduction to choreographer at the Natya School of Indian Classical Dance, Tejaswini Rao (1:44:15) and Dr. Rao’s introduction to the dance performance and the dancers (1:45:00) and the dance performance (1:48:10). Conclusion remarks provided by Stephen Dunnett and sharing of respects by the performance dancers (1:56:45). Video ends (2:00:29).

Digital files created by William Regan and the Office of Special Events were transferred to the University Archives on various types of storage media including compact discs and digital optical discs. Where possible, digital content saved on storage media was migrated from the storage media, normalized to standard preservation and access formats, and transferred to a stable preservation environment following the University Libraries' Digital Preservation guidelines. Some folder titles and file titles were altered to assist researchers in locating and identifying digital content.
