For the earliest serving Presidents, materials were collected by temple archivists after their terms of service, and after their death. A number of Presidents do not have papers, while for those who have papers, a range of materials were collected by synagogue archivists and may include service prior to their appointment, usually Board materials or other committee responsibilities, or documents that were produced during their tenure, rather than documents utilized or submitted by the former presidents themselves. Each President’s files hold a wide range of contents and usually include minutes and correspondence, as well as fliers. This series was reprocessed in order of year of service.

The collection of Temple Beth Zion, Buffalo, NY, 1864-2008, is open for research. There are restrictions regarding access to and use of this collection. Materials from 1969 through 2008 are restricted, and subject to a rolling ten-year release schedule. Researchers may contact the Temple Beth Zion President, Secretary or Chief Operating Officer directly regarding research permissions for materials created within these dates. All materials prior to 1969 are unrestricted, although fragile materials are accessed with the aid of the archivists.
