State University of New York at Buffalo. Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
Dates
- Existence: 1967 - 1998
Historical Note
On September 22, 1913, the first classes were offered in what would formally become the College of Arts and Sciences. In 1967, the College was divided into the Faculty of Arts and Letters, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Administration, with associated departments housed within those three academic areas. In 1998, the College of Arts and Sciences was reestablished, eliminating the three divisions.
The University Archives retains the record group / subgroup numbers assigned to the departments after the 1967 split (i.e. 16/4 Department of English, 20/7 Department of Mathematics, and 22/6 Department of History) which maintains the historical records with contemporary ones for each department. Any records created before 1967 for the first College of Arts and Sciences designation are kept with their original record group, RG 15. Administrative records for the reunified College of Arts and Science, i.e., Office of the Dean, are classed with a new record group, RG 50; departments established within CAS after 1998 are also classed in RG 50, i.e., 50/32 Department of Environment and Sustainability.
